A short while ago I joined a Certified Organic UK company to promote their fabulous range of wholefood nutrition, essential oils, and scented candles. It wasn't an unexpected move because the writing had been on the wall at my previous wellness company, but that's a story for another day.
Anyway, my Google search for a UK organic company revealed numerous companies. Knowing enough about the industry's deception and some of its darker marketing practices, I did my due diligence on them all. What I found out about some did not come as a complete surprise. I'd just confirmed my suspicions.
You see, anyone can claim to be organic because it's just not regulated like the food or health supplements industry.
In fact, many companies include the word organic in their company name or product branding and falsely claim, or imply, that their ingredients are organic.
Even a popular UK organic company has products among their certified organic range that are not certified, people naturally assume that all the products in the range carry organic certification.
The unsuspecting public don't know what they don't know.
Most people assume that when a health & wellness company calls themselves organic that they will have organic products. Sadly, that isn't always the case.
It's why I was keen to find an ethical organic company that manufacturers in accordance with the operational procedures and practices as outlined and certified, by the Organic Food Federation.
What Certified Organic means?
To be 'Certified Organic' means that the company facilities, ingredients, formulas, and packaging are independently inspected and continually audited to maintain the accreditation.
It also means a company has to adhere to very strict standards, with an auditing process that is there to protect the customer. It's an ironclad guarantee that what the customer buys is absolutely 100% organic.
Not only that, all organic farms and ingredient suppliers also have to be independently inspected and audited, to be awarded organic certification.
GMOs are banned, as are pesticides, herbicides, and many additives.
Organic standards do not allow for the use of glyphosate at any stage of production.
The high standard follows through to include eco-friendly packaging and processes.
So, Buyer Beware!
If a company markets itself as organic but are not 'certified organic' and do not carry an Organic Food Federation logo on their label, then what you are buying may not be completely 100% organic.
