Don’t be “that guy”
A new sign-up recently quit my network marketing opportunity. It happens. The advice I give myself is to get over it. Move on. Spend time with those committed to changing their circumstances.
The first time someone quits on you is demotivating. However, it’s par for the course in this industry. And not everyone is ready to embrace success in their life’s journey.
Some people don’t yet have the DESIRE, or FIRE in their belly, to succeed. My new associate lasted less than 30 days before he gave up on his dream.
It’s so sad how our society is like a microwave. People want immediate results without going through the necessary process of getting their marketing systems in place, and getting their name and message out to the market – It takes time and patience to learn new skills, learn how to brand yourself, learn how to build posture and position yourself to be perceived as the expert.
Be the “Smart Beginner” Guy
Most people who join a network marketing company are usually still working as an employee building someone else’s dream. They have never owned a business before. It’s a different mindset. It requires a higher level of mental toughness and a “WHATEVER IT TAKES” determination to succeed.
No one should ever think that building a sustainable business is quick and easy. It’s not.
Many people don’t realize the road to network marketing success has many setbacks, or that there’s hard WORK involved.
I was scrolling through the home feed of a likely “networker” when I came across a comment that summarized the network marketing process. See below.
Here is how network marketing goes… work, work, work, work, work, work, make a little bit of money, work, work, work, work, work, work, make a little more money, work, work, work, work, make even more money, work, work, work, make even more money, work, work, make a lot of money, work, work, make a whole lot of money, work, make an insane amount of money! The key word here is WORK… no work, no money! My commissions go up every month, I get a aise every month! NetWORK marketing is work, AND the rewards are way more than you ever expected!
Be that Guy with a “Different Perspective”
People will continue to do things as long as it’s easy. Once they’re challenged to the next level, they give up and go back to their path of least resistance. However, opportunity rewards people who step outside their comfort zone.
The simple truth is many people would fare better if they took a different perspective. After all, if you don’t know where you are going it doesn’t matter what path you take.
We should never give up in the pursuit of our dreams, but we need to know what is the right path to becoming successful in business. Which brings me to the purpose of this post.
I always enjoy interesting stories about how the most successful people in the world struggled. How they had to face ‘failure’ time and time again before they got it right.
While I was surfing the EMP Blog looking for leadership and inspiration ideas to blog about, I came across a reference to the classic book “Think and Grow Rich” by the author Napoleon Hill. I found the “Three Feet From Gold” story very inspiring. Its message is that you can overcome any temporary defeat.

Three Feet From Gold
Back in the 1800’s, in the middle of the gold rush, a man named R. U. Darby traveled west with his uncle to dig and grow wealthy.
They stopped in Colorado, and Darby’s uncle staked a mining claim. Both men worked tirelessly from sun up until sun down – using nothing but picks and shovels.
The work was back-breaking, however both were driven by a burning desire to strike it rich!
Finally after much toil and struggle, Darby and his uncle discovered what they had risked everything and traveled thousands of miles for…
G O L D !!
Needing heavier machinery to bring their shiny ore to the surface, they quietly covered up their find and went back home to Maryland to tell their family and a few friends what happened.
As you can imagine, everyone was thrilled to hear the news!
They all pitched in to buy the necessary equipment and had it shipped back to Colorado.
As a result, the work went a lot faster, and their first load of ore was mined and sent to the smelter – a factory where the metal was melted.
The money they made from this confirmed they had stumbled upon one of the richest gold mines in the state.
Darby and his uncle were overjoyed! Just a couple more loads like this and they’d be completely out of debt scooping up nothing but pure profit.
Then something horrible happened. The gold just vanished.
Nowhere to be found!
Both men frantically continued drilling, trying to rediscover the vein that had supplied them with so much elation and hope.
However, this time their work didn’t pay off. The vein had simply dried up. (or so they thought)
Discouraged and disappointed, they decided to give up and quit.
Before catching the train back home his uncle sold all the expensive mining equipment to a “junk man” for only a couple hundred dollars.
This junk man was smart. He quickly hired an expert, a mining engineer, to find out for sure if the vein had dried up.
After some inspection and further calculations, the engineer said the project had failed because the two men weren’t familiar with the mine’s fault lines.
He predicted the vein of gold would be found three feet from where R. U. Darby and his uncle stopped drilling!
And sure enough, that’s exactly where it was discovered again.
Are You Just Three Feet Away?
Anyone who sets out to achieve anything worthwhile in life or business will probably experience temporary failure or setbacks at some point or another.
Unaware of how close they might be to success most will abandon their dream and quit — right before a big breakthrough.
Let’s face it, calling it a day is an easy way out when things are working. (which is exactly why so many people will take this path of least resistance).
Indeed… maybe you’re at this point right now in your network marketing opportunity. Maybe success is just not happening or working out at the level you had envisioned.
And what’s worse, your dream of firing the boss, working from home, at the beach (or anywhere else you want), and doing your own thing seems like something that only works for other people – not you.
And if that’s not enough, maybe you are suffering from marketing “information overload” (or worse “paralysis by analysis”) and can’t make sense of all this social selling and internet marketing guru stuff no matter how hard you try.
Perhaps you just spent the past six months and a couple of thousand pounds developing a website or blog that hasn’t produced a single lead or sale for your network marketing business.
But here’s something I want you to remember.
So any time that you experience what appears to be a major setback or your goals start to seem out of reach, I suggest you come back to Napoleon’s book and remind yourself of this important fact…
“FAILURES” and “SETBACKS” are not Actually Failures!
They are simply the necessary stepping stones in the process of figuring out what works and what doesn’t.
Well, I hope these success stories have inspired you (like they have me) to never lose sight of your dreams and to keep going no matter what. DON’T QUIT!
P.S. The “junk man” in the Three Feet From Gold story went on to make millions of dollars not because he kept digging aimlessly like the Darby’s.
However, he was smart enough to have got a different perspective on the situation after seeking the advice of a professional expert.
So, let’s put this great lesson into practice.
The question to ask yourself is:
Are You Digging Aimlessly in Your Network Marketing Business?
If so, then maybe it is time to heed the wisdom from the Three Feet From Gold story and get a new perspective on things. I sure did, and it has been a game-changer!

2) You can learn how to generate leads, make sales, and grow a moneymaking network marketing business on the Internet — all by yourself.
This will need a great deal of time and effort on your part and you’ll go through TONS of trial and error….plus a TON of expenses! Nevertheless, it is perfectly doable… that’s if you have the time, money and an abundance of patience!
3) Best option! You can have someone who’s already blazed the trail hold your hand and walk you through each and every step of the way in putting it all together — which will shave months (even years) off your learning curve!
And, oh yes, let’s not forget that by taking this smarter route, you can finally begin building the network marketing business of your dreams starting NOW and get results trickling in as soon as tomorrow!
Anyway, I didn’t intend for this ‘Three Feet From Gold’ post to become a blatant sales pitch or anything like that, so I’ll stop rambling on (like a hustler) about it now.
But whatever path you choose, I want you to know I wholeheartedly respect your decision and wish you the best with your business endeavours.
