3 Truths I Learned About Social Network Marketing

Today I want to talk about the three Social Network Marketing truths that will impact your online home business.

So what is Social Network Marketing anyway?

Social network marketing is essentially the process of attracting the right people for you to get more, targeted leads, customers, and distributors for your opportunity.

Network marketing companies know this, so they supply distributors with a plethora of social media tools to post as status updates and use in messages.

However, these tools brand the company and do not brand you, so they should really be used with caution.

Okay, let’s dive in with the first of the three Social Network Marketing Truths.

Truth #1 –  People Don’t Go On Social Media To Buy

People don’t use social media to buy products, services, or join businesses.

You see, the three main reasons why people go on social media  are:

  • Socialize
  • Learning
  • Entertainment

This means that you need to create content and post status updates that provide value to attract your target audience to you.

The reason being, network marketing is a people business, and people are more comfortable doing business with those who they KNOW, LIKE, and TRUST.

How you build trust is by constantly offering ‘value orientated‘ posts…

…which means delivering content that is of perceived value to your target audience, not links, mentioning your company, your products, or sales hype.

Truth #2 – You Don’t Own Your Social Media Posts

It may come as a shock to some, but every status update, image, video, and podcast you post on social media platforms ceases to be yours, it now belongs to the social media network.

Social media networks are continuously updating their Terms of Service and changing the field of play to stamp out those spammy and shady practices that some marketers use.

Sadly, such TOS changes also impact those marketers who follow the rules. What is allowed today, may not be permitted tomorrow.

How can you protect yourself from the ever-changing social media landscape?

When you post on social media you are playing on rented land, your content has a short life. Your content can simply vanish or become suppressed by the social network’s algorithm to never reach your followers.

Having your ‘own hosted’ blog is the solution.

With a blog, you own the content you’ve posted on it.

What’s more, a blog is an asset, it has longevity, it can be driving traffic and sales for years to come.

The goal of social media marketing is to build relationships with people to direct them to your blog.

Speaking of blogs, if you do not have a network marketing blog here are a couple of options to consider.

A) The “non-techie” way of blogging is to use everything done for you service like that provided by EMP through a Membership + Support Community.

Or…

B) Fly solo and set up your own network marketing blog.

The direction you go in really comes down to how much customization and styling you want to control. While WordPress hosting is low cost, those paid for plugins come with subscriptions, so using a done for you service with everything already built in can be more economical.

Anyway, I have digressed…

Truth #3 – Which Is The Best Social Media Platform For Building Your Business?

There are many social media networks out there, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube to name a few.

Which social network you are going to hang out on is really determined by where your target audience hangs out.

But focus on using just one social network because you can’t build a strong following of raving fans if you’re trying to be everywhere.

Remember, people go to social networks to socialize and engage, they want to be entertained, they want to learn something in the process.

So you really want to be on the social network you are the most comfortable with because you will be using it in the way it was designed to be used, and not be a spammy network marketer who vomits their company and pushes their program and products in salesy ways.

You have to lead with value first, and then steer conversations to a direction where you can discover if there is a fit for your business and products.

Make sense?
